Selected and arranged by Graham Lyons
A composition in the bebop-influenced swing style of the 1950s usually described as West Coast Jazz. The music sounds straightforward but, for school and amateur combos, the notes and rhythms need careful preparation and would benefit from repeated practice at half tempo to make sure every note is correctly placed for tuning and rhythm.
The piece is dedicated to the man who recorded 'Stand clear of the gates' for the lifts (elevators) carrying passengers on the London Underground up to street level.
